Zografos Gallery - Greek Islands & Towns

The Zografos family has a long tradition of producing fine artists. In the Greek language the name Zografos means artist and as the greek custom is to name childen after their grandfather, Pantelis took the name of his paternal grandfather, a renowned iconographer. 




Aegina
Aegina is one of the closest islands to Athens and is a popular weekend destination. Relaxing at the harbor Zaxaroplasteon (dessert shop) is a favorite pastime. The harbor church is Panayitsa or Mother Mary.




Halki
The port of Emborio is the center of activities on this small picturesque island in the Aegean Sea. The ruined medieval castle of the Knights of St John would have sheltered Christians on route to the Crusades. 

Corfu
This view shows the Monastery of Panagia Vlacherna situated on a tiny islet and connected to the shore by an iron bridge. A gift shop supports the monastery but there are no longer resident nuns. Mouse Island, home of Pontikonisi Chapel can be seen in the background. 



Windmills of Ios
This group of windmills is lined up along the coast of Ios to catch the sea breezes. They were once used to process grain but today most have been remodeled. 

Mykonos
Historic windmills are the most recognized landmark on this internationally known island. For decades it's sunny beaches and vibrant night life have drawn tourists.

Fiscardo
Fiscardo is a port village on the island of Cephalonia. Waterfront buildings display traditional colors and the picturesque harbor is a popular yachting berth. 


Galaxithi
Galaxithi is a beautiful little old port town in central Greece, situated in the gulf of Korinth. The 18th and 19th centuries saw great prosperity for ship owners in this town and during that time many fine mansions were built. 


Gythio
This coastal town on the southern Peloponnese was historically the main port of Sparta. Now it is a hub for tourists who gather there for ferries, seafood and entertainment. 


Hydra
Hydra is one of the Saronic Islands. It's proximity make it a popular destination for day tours from Athens. All around the bay picturesque white houses are interspersed with great stone mansions, but the 18th century clock tower from the Monastery of Panagia dominates the view.





Andros
This island in the cyclades has sandy beaches. picturesque villages and a mountainous interior. An abundance of water on the island supports olive and lemon groves, vineyards and plenty of wildlife.












Sunrise Santorini
This volcanic island in Cyclades has a unique geography. Small homes are built on the steep edge of the rocks face. Some have rooms carved out of pumice stone rock left by the volcano. Small family churches are dotted amongst the white homes.

Symi is a picturesque island near Rhodes. Preservation codes protect the tall elegant Neo-classical era structures built with the wealth from ship building and sponge diving.
Warm Wecome
Two small boys, welcome Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta. They are wearing the traditional costume of the evzones; the Greek National Guard. The background has been changed to depict a small monastery and seascape in the typical style of Greece Select


Prosilio
This picturesque village is in the Mani region of the Peloponnese. Prosilio means"towards the sun" On the outskirts of the village, goat herds graze on the rocky outcrops among groves of olive trees and wild prickly pear.

Spetse
Septse is one of the Saronic Islands, a group that is close to Athens. Away from the busy harbor are fine beaches and cool pine forests. This small island is ideal for taking pleasant walks through the narrow streets. 




Symi
